Nerine Strachan BAppSocSc CounsellingNerine is from Sydney, Australia and has 6 years of experience in the counselling and humanitarian fields.

She has a specific passion for working with addictions and trauma and has worked at leading addiction and trauma treatment centres in both Asia and Australia.  She continues to expand her qualifications studying a Masters of Science in Medicine (Psychotherapy) at the University of Sydney.

Nerine is also a trained and registered yoga teacher, and uses the ancient wisdom of yoga in her clinical practice to help clients achieve clarity and psychological well-being.

She uses a trauma informed integrative therapeutic approach that is influenced by Schema therapy, Cognitive Behavioural therapy and Mindfulness. 

Nerine is committed to ensuring clients experience a safe and transformative therapeutic experience that will facilitate their long-term recovery goals. Apart from her online work, she also runs a thriving yoga and counselling practice in Sydney Australia.

6 Myths About EmotionsWe grow up hearing a lot about emotions, “boys don’t cry”, “suck it up” “get a grip” “look on the bright side” “pull your socks up”and numerous other sayings that encourage us to “put up or shut up” and avoid expressing “negative” emotions.  No doubt the intention behind these sayings is well-meaning – an attempt to encourage us to be happy and positive, but actually, messages that encourage us to hide, suppress, avoid or judge our emotions are downright dangerous. Misconceptions about emotions are the primary obstacle to developing emotional intelligence.

Addiction is all about emotions. Feeling a bit stressed after work, a couple of glasses of wine will help you unwind. Feeling bored and lethargic? Meth will give you an boost of energy that will last for hours. Feeling a bit awkward in a social gathering and don’t know what to say? A few beers and you’ll be the life and soul of the party.

Millions of people use alcohol and drugs to change the way they feel and, in the short term, substance use can serve as an effective emotional regulation system. The problem arises when you depend completely on substances to fix the way you feel.
